This blog is moving to SoundPudding.com

Posted on January 15, 2023

Greetings, Much of the contents of this blog will be moving to my new site, soundpudding.com. That site will contain my writings as well as interviews and guest posts related to skills and careers in music. While countless others have blogged about such things, I plan to grow this into a broad resource incorporating many perspectives. I’ll still write about my work on occasion, but I’ll be focused more on other aspects of music. My posts about Composer CVs andRead More

Reflections on 2021

Posted on December 5, 2021

I just read through my “reflections on 2020” post and I feel much the same about 2020. 2021 was a steady-state year as well.  I’m wrapping up my 3rd year at SMU. Even with 9 months to prepare, it still seems a little surreal that he’s here, and that I have a new title: Dad. I’ll have more to muse about in the coming months. I think it will really hit home when I need to be at work all day and come home to him. For right now,Read More

Gallery walls: a beginner’s attempts

Posted on September 16, 2020

For a change of pace on this blog, I wanted to share pictures of a few “gallery walls” I’ve put up in our house. I think I’m getting better at it. The biggest tip I’ve learned is to find your vertical center, and keep it consistent. I have hung almost all the art in our house with a center of 5 feet from the floor. That is, the center of each collection is 5 feet. Our living room and diningRead More
